Poets of World War II

Charles Reznikoff: By the Well of Living and Seeing

I chose this poem because I recognized the poet’s name. This poem was real interesting to me. It is almost a man that takes a divergent route home than usual and stumbles upon a small produce store. Inside this store is where he meets a man that he talks to. During the conversation the man finds out from the worker that his parole has been sent to warfare. The store worker is very upset about this because he does non believe his son will blow over home alive. The man shows sympathy for the store owner and says he will make it home.
After the war ends the man goes patronise to the store and asks the owner about his son and finds out he did make it home, and he was unwounded. The store worker is in a lot better mood this conviction and even swaps devil bad apples for two good apples for the man. I think this legend is just trying to give people insight on how bad times were during the war. The clerk in the store was low when the war was going on because a loved one(a) was involved. After the war though he seemed to enjoy his task and enjoy life a lot more. If not for the war he would have been just as nice the scratch time around as he was the second time the man came.

The value he was in was horrifying.
In this place that he describes as rocky, muddy, and smelling like explosives he feels he will never escape. The letters that he had received did not help him at all. They just reminded him of the terrible situation he was in, because he was reading them in this awful place. He was in the mud and the trenches with the smell...If you want to get a full essay, auberge it on our website: Ordercustompaper.com
