In the story Where are you going, where have you been? By Joyce hum Oates I feel the theme that is being portrayed is vainglorious versus pip-squeak. Basically Connie is still a squirt but in her mind she is an enceinte. She feels more grown up than she actually is. To me that shows that at home she is still a pincer but everywhere else she is handle like an adult.
The setting in this story shows the different areas where Connie is treated as a child or as an adult. Her home with her family shows a hind end where she is treated as a child. The home represents a safe note for her. She can act like a child, be senseless or rude and she is still going to be equal to(p) to call this place home. The mall and movie theatre shows the place where she can be adult. Connie and her friends would go across the highway submergence fast across the busy road, to a drive-in eatery where the old kids hung out. At the drive-in she always felt senior(a) and more mature.
