Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 near Hodgenville Kentucky. Lincoln later became a republican in 1856 due to the disintegration of the Whig party. He made a agnomen for himself and wanted to become the republican leader of Illinois but befuddled the election to Stephen Douglas, but he had gotten national recognition and was considered a presidential candidate of 1860. On May 16, 1860 he was put forward at the Republican National convention, on the third ballot. He later went on to win a majority of the electoral College votes and became president.
